Criminal Justice

#5 High Wage, High Demand

Police and correction officers are in high demand. Right now, there are more job openings in Michigan than there have been in the last 20 years. Careers in criminal justice and public safety offer competitive wages with good benefit packages. Are you a self-starter who is honest, hardworking and community oriented?

Join the Criminal Justice Program at the Hillsdale Area Career Center to explore careers in security, law enforcement, corrections, the courts, emergency services and law/legal services. Spend your time in the classroom learning through hands-on, real-life scenarios and participating in weekly physical training.

Matt Duff, Instructor

My name is Matt Duff, I was born and raised in Hillsdale County. I am married to Jennifer Duff, a teacher at Hillsdale High School. I have 3 children, Tyson, Aniston and Lenox and they attend Hillsdale Community Schools. I enjoy hunting and sports. I am the varsity baseball coach for Hillsdale High School.

After high school I received a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University. Soon after graduating I was hired at the Hillsdale County Sheriff's Department and worked there for 13 years. During my time there I worked as a patrol officer, a K-9 handler, defensive tactics instructor and was a member of the Hillsdale County Mutual Emergency Response Team. I left the Sheriff's Department and took a job with the Hillsdale City Police and worked full time there for 5 years and I am currently still employed there.

I left law enforcement in 2017 to become the Program Manager of Criminal Justice with the Hillsdale County ISD.
